Six students of the Buryat State Agricultural Academy defended their final qualifying works in the startup format and this is the first defense of diplomas in the form of business projects in the higher education system of Buryatia.
The federal program "Startup as a Diploma" has been working since 2019, the goal of the project is to enable students to immerse themselves in entrepreneurship as early as possible and attract investment in their startups.
- "If a student writes a diploma as his business project, then this changes everything - he is no longer in the classical performing position for a student, he is the "owner" of the project." It is important that our students try on the role of businessmen and strategists as early as possible. A competent approach and comprehensive support of student initiatives increase the chances of a successful business appearing within the walls of universities," says the rector of the BSSA, Belikto Tsybikov.
The pioneers of the program - graduates of the Institute of Land Management, Cadastre and Land Reclamation, agronomic, Technological, economic and engineering faculties worked on their projects for several years.
The projects included a business idea, an economic component and the whole algorithm of actions from A to Z: a step-by-step development plan, a detailed risk analysis and much more. In writing projects, students were actively assisted by practical teachers of the Faculty of Economics of the BSSA. In addition, our students consulted with specialists of the Republican Business Incubator and the Project Technology Office of students of the Buryat State Agricultural Academy.
- "The chosen directions are somehow connected with medicinal plant growing. In a world where the consumption of medicines, food and various additives based on natural herbs and plants is growing every year, the set benchmark of our guys' work opens up great prospects for them," says Belikto Tsybikov.

The first three works are already under consideration in the All-Russian competition "Student Startup" of the Innovation Promotion Foundation.
- "I already have my own small farm, and if we are talking about expansion, then there is no way to do without high-quality feed. Feed feeds are different, especially when it comes to natural. Therefore, my thesis is designed to help small farms in the issue of increasing livestock production with the help of a feed base, and for me to find new growth points. I think the Startup as a Diploma program will find a great response among students and will encourage them to start their own business," says Igor Kuriganov, a participant in the program.
Our graduates successfully coped with the protection of their startups, giving exhaustive answers and comments to all questions and comments of the members of the GEK and reviewers.
In the 2023-2024 academic year, the Buryat State Agricultural Academy will continue work on the protection of student business projects under the federal program "Startup as a Diploma".
